Battle of Gennis
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Battle of Gennis in Sudan (then often called upper Egypt) was fought on 30 December 1885. The British forces were led by Major General Evelyn Wood. It was little more than a skirmish, with few casualties on either side.
It is notable as the last time that British soldiers fought in scarlet tunics. Thereafter, the army used less visible uniforms.
Amongst the witnesses to the battle was Horace Smith-Dorrien.
