East Central Independent School District
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
East Central Independent School District is a public school district located in eastern Bexar County, Texas (USA).
Includes students from within the city limits of San Antonio and China Grove.
The East Central Hornets dominated Texas high-school basketball in 1995 with a 35-0 season, beating Dallas Carter to win an ESPN-televised state championship.
The school's mascot, Harley the hornet, was named after 1995 principal Harley Eckhart. Mr. Eckhart had a reputation for being the school's "biggest fan" in the bleachers at all of the school's sporting events.
The school district has had spectacular employment rates. According to www.greatschools.net, an unbiased national survey website, the schools in the East Central Independent School District reported a below-average percent of first-year teachers and a higher-than-average percent of teacher-retention. In other words- it is difficult to get hired; but once a teacher does get hired, he or she retains the job longer than the average percent of teachers in both larger and smaller school districts. The teachers then have more time to bond with (and "figure out") their students.
Teacher-statistics aside, student test-scores are above average throughout the community.
