A radio modem is a modem that transmits data by means of radio waves instead of a fixed pair of wires, such as the POTS network.

A type of radio modem, the cellular modem, uses the cellular network to transmit and receive data. Specialized data access technologies such as 1xEV-DO and HSDPA have facilitated the use of the cellular network to transmit data.
