The "Scratch the Victorian veneer" line is misquoted and misattributed. The line is "Scratch the Victorian veneer, and something nasty'll come crawling out", and is spoken by Ace, not the Doctor. --62.254.0.32 23:59, 21 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Succession box

If this is supposed to be a general biography of Sylvester McCoy, why does it have that "preceded by.... succeeded by" box at the end? Did those guys take over his role in 'Tiswas'?

Seriously, if you want to maintain any pretence that this is more than a 'Doctor Who'-centric article, you should clear that up. If not, you should change the title to reflect the specific subject matter.

I don't agree. If you look at the Edward Heath article, it shows a similar succession box at the bottom of the biography for all the high offices he has held. In Sylvester's case, whilst he has had a long and varied career, he hasn't to my knowledge played any other roles which have a succession box. If the situation changes, they would be added to the article in the same place. DavidFarmbrough 13:19 (BST) 12 September 2005

I'm not sure that this is quite the same case. Anyway, I have no problem with the article emphasising his Doctor Who work if that's what he's most famous for, nor with the inclusion of the box. The only qualm I have is the lack of explanation surrounding such boxes (for *all* actors who've played the Doctor- note that some have done quite a lot of work before and since); if they had an inconspicuous title a la 'Doctor Who lineage' (I'm sure you or someone else can think of something better), it would be fine. The succession box does need clarifying - Baker and McGann didn't preceed and succeed McCoy as the 'Seventh Doctor', after all. It *is* misleading written in that way. Angmering 15:25, 12 September 2005 (UTC)

I changed that from simply "The Doctor" because that doesn't take advantage of the fact that we have individual Doctor articles. Or should it read "The Doctor" and then "Seventh Doctor" on the next line? --khaosworks (talk • contribs) 15:47, 12 September 2005 (UTC)

McCoy also appeared in the BBC Children's programme JIGSAW as one of the double-O men. This duo would appear whenever one of the hosts said six words containing a 'oo' in the middle. The other double-O man was David Rappaport. While tidying up the references and moving them to cite.php format, I replaced a link to McCoy's IMDb bio, because IMDb isn't generally considered a reliable source for biographic information. (They're good for credits, but their biographies and trivia sections can be iffy at times.) Unfortunately, the only source I could find online for McCoy's youth in Dublin isn't much better. If anyone has a print source that mentions this (perhaps the Seventh Doctor Handbook, or a DWM interview?), please replace the "Sci Fi Cruises" website with a better reference.
