[edit] Extended Network
From the article: "This has the effect of breaking MySpace's "Extended Network" feature, as every MySpace member is an "extended" friend of every other MySpace member by virtue of being "friends" with Tom."
I'm not a myspace member, so correct me if I'm wrong, but here's two points of contention I have with this:
- even though you start out 'friends' with Tom, there's no reason you have to stay friends with him.
- the "extended network" feature is meaningless anyways - if you visit the page even when you're not logged in, it claims still claims everyone is in your "extended network"
67.170.183.209 18:58, 6 March 2006 (UTC)
- What it comes down to is: there's over 70 million people on Myspace, and most of them simply do not bother to delete Tom from their "friend list." Even if you delete Tom, and all your friends do as well, if you're a friend of a friend of a friend of Tom, everyone else who is friends with Tom (the majority of the people on MySpace) is still in your extended network, so it's virtually impossible to make it work the way it's supposed to.
- I think that it's worth mentioning the design flaws of MySpace in the article, since Tom was the chief designer and is known ONLY because of MySpace. Although, I reverted someone removing this section, assuming it was vandalism, and it was removed once again. So obviously someone doesn't think it belongs here.

[edit] Anti-Tom
I'm deleting Anti-Tom because it is spam. I am also requesting that it be permanently kept off the page. Anti-Tom is not encylopedic. Then again, neither is Tom Anderson, but the creator will just have to deal with it.
Tom Anderson is definitely encylopedic. He's on the cover of Newsweek!
-
- Uhh, yeah. That's, you know, kinda the reason why we're sitting here discussing him on the talk page for his encyclopedia article.
Who would make such judgements about a program that they themselves no nothing about - they no not know the design and functionality of MySpace because they admitted to not being a member. Once you're a member you have control to manipulate features to enhance and design your experience. I know because I became a member over concern for my twelve year old daughter who was gaining interest in the program and so were all of her friends. I feared the power of networking and the potential dangers. MySpace is a cultural and social phenomenon. Tom is a geniuis and now a historical icon. His timing for this great idea was impecible to its success. Just my opnion. -A.S, Dunedin, Fla.
[edit] Screenshot image
I took out the screenshot of Tom's profile page because the article is too small and both of the images together were breaking the page. It could have been a browser or screen resolution problem on my end, but I don't think the screenshot needs to be there anyway. -Nathew 13:27, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] coincidence??
Thomas A. Anderson, is the name of the central fictional character from the movie The Matrix
- Yeah, coincidence alright. One's supposed to save us all, and the other's going to destroy us. Wavy G 02:35, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
- Though looking at the new disambiguation page for Tom Anderson shows many Tom Andersons. Not coincidental but commonplace. The same goes for Agents Smith and Brown. -- Riffsyphon1024 04:30, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure "Tom Anderson" is a pseudonym. The real guy has a different name. He simply chose Neo's name because Neo is a computer genius. ~ZytheTalk to me! 18:25, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Customer Service / Head Quarters / Location / Compliments & Criticism
Do any of the fellow Wikipedians of who are out there even possibly know. As to whether or not the website of my space which is belonging to Tom Anderson even has some specific head quarters location some where in California for where it is centrally operated.
And is it even legally permissible to name and to indentify the specfic street and the address and building name and the floor number or the suite # for where it is that My space functions and originates from ?.
I figure that the people who are the members of My space online might either have something positive to offer in praise to say about My space. Or possibly the people who are the critics and who might have some critical and negative to add a comment of might be able to either e-mail the central head quarters there or to even use postage mail should they so choose and decide to do so.
But as of right now I do not know of the specific data Bernie 22:45, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
Apparently the kid who had the conversation with "Tom" on myspace has also now included a screenshot of the messages tom sent, further proving that the conversation did take place... Http://www.xanga.com/latent_malfunction

Here is a discussion a former myspace user had with "Tom" that resulted in the user deleting their account and ending his service permanently, the following conversation can also be found online at a link posted at the bottom of the page:
On JAN 2 2007 around 12:55 AM I wrote to Tom and myspace Tech Support and posted several bulletins and blogs of this exact message:
Sorry Tom (not real), What is this crap going on trying to get me to click this 300 thingy because it will "change my profile?" I'm fine about the quicktime update, I don't need my myspace fixed, I need my life fixed. And myspace and all this, its causing me a whole headache of problems in REAL life. Like you guys trying to get someone to setup an online music store? Or how about all the other headaches you guys caused when you robbed myspace from the people that helped create it (the "emo" kids), exploited their culture, their music, made money off of it, and instead turned it into what will destroy myspace, an AD ridden horrible place that is ruining and destroying everyone!
Its funny, when you take something away from the people and try to profit from it, you will make a quick buck at first, but you will lose in the end!
Myspace shall be the Enron of the digital age and Tom will be its martyr
you are right this is myspace but when you say myspace you must refer to it as yourspace this isn't myspace no space is my space, but the space my body resides in! I don't have any ads on me Thanks
“Tom” responded with this message
Subject title:You’re a fool ... 300 is a sponsor of 300 photos.. everyone gets 300 photos now, and the banner will be gone in a month. they pay me money, which allows me to give everyone more photos.. i didn't rob shit from emo culture. grow up and think for yourself. stop repeating things you think make you sound smart.

You're destroying everything, no one cares about photos, all photos do is exploit people being vain and insecure, and feeds our "materlistic culture" back at us
THE US Isn't US you are trying to make it YOU instead of embracing everyone for who they are instead of filters and endless pictures and with no flaws
You respond in anger
I respond as a cry for help for everyone and anything
“Tom” sent: um. how would i go about embracing everyone for who they are michael?

I'd rather not share these ideas, I'm not talking to any real person in the real sense, I'll talk about the digital world in the digital world, and I'll talk about real life in real life.
this isn't real this is inflated stocks high interest rates and something I crapped out and flushed being sold back to me with a ribbon and perfume.
The only true numbers are in mathematics, not in 0's and 1's, and your favorite number .
a decimal point isn't a number its what you use to divide numbers, and in sentences, you use it to divide the truth, I don't need people reading my ideas and using it for a grand scheme marketing campaign, say whatever you want to me online, I'm afraid of nothing, including death
tell me your lies in person.
“Tom” sent:
ok.. well then don't bother me.. i read the 1,000s of emails everyday and they come from all kind of people not 'emo' people. the majority of people want more pictures.. you are not everyone. get over yourself and goodbye.

Oh really?
People want more pictures? Did you ever think people could be wrong? If people started sending you messages asking you to send them crack, would you do that?
Ideas can be just as dangerous as "crack"
by embracing how everyone looks instead of what they say do or think
you promote nothing but perfection of the body but the mind holds the bodies key I can control my body and my mind and
I don't take pictures I don't write things down I remember it there is a thing people have its called memory you're robbing everyone of it and in return putting everyones ideas out in the open
you are removing original thought from the collective unconscious of this world
(notice what Tom says next, basically saying he’d sell people crack)
“Tom” sent:
yes, actually i do think that.. such as yourself. and all the people that ask me for prfoile trackers, which i've refused to create... people can use pictures for whatever they want. you're an egomaniac.
and as for your idea of not being 'real', you're just plain dumb.
yes, the 'corporation' has developed amazing technology that scans 1,000s of emails and comments and responds to upset emo kids.. it's very important to perpetuate the idea that there's an actual president of myspace! because, of couse, most companies DONT have someone in charge. they all just create an illusion that one person is in charge, while 1,000s of people work in tandem to run the company without any hierarchy.

You're the one name calling you're the one insulting you're the one misspelling words in anger and fear of the truth
Don't project your own insecurities and ideas upon me, I'm fine with who I am, and I'd sooner live on the streets and be no ones burden, than be exploited as such.
Myspace was an amazing idea, as are so many, but there are way to make people willingly participate and engage in life, without exploiting or creating "sales" or demands.
The world hates US, US, the U.S, and US they are one in the same...
You can't create false existences to medicate the sour life of other individuals, the problem lies in our society and what happens to the good ideas, not the ideas in of themselves.
At this moment this conversation is actually starting to frighten me, and in all honesty I am probably going to shut down my myspace, so have fun.
“Tom” sent:
singing on the streets would be a good idea for you. then myspace wouldn't be exploiting your precious art. you insulted me by suggesting i don't exist. you're a simpleton who thinks he's intelligent .. but you're following a pattern like everyone else. i think you're right.. you should delete your account. you obviously don't want to be here..
I replied with something along the lines of, I think I’m going to delete my account
See you on the other side

[edit] French
His profile now has this written on it in the Who I'd like to meet section: "J'aime rencontrer des personnes qui m'apprennent quelque chose, m'inspire ou m'amusent ... J'ai quelques amis très proches que je connais depuis toujours ; j'aimerais en avoir plus."| which means "I'd like to meet people who can teach me something, inspires to me or amuse me... I already have some very close friends; I would like to have some more." It wasn't always in French (used to be in English) but it's obviously a joke of some sort (e.g. friends to teach him something), but does any one know if he actually speaks French? Would this be worth a mention? Loserdog3000 16:07, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
Sorry I don't know exactly where to post this or what to do, BUT I had a conversation with "tom" on myspace, it got pretty ridiculous and in the end I deleted my myspace after having it for awhile, I'd rather not entirely elaborate on all of this because I don't want to be termed crazy or something, but Tom said some pretty damning things.
[edit] PR scheme?
http://www.valleywag.com/tech/myspace/what-news-corp-doesnt-want-you-to-know-about-myspace-condensed-edition-199668.php#more dono if the story is bs or not, but interesting..
- Makes sense to me... A guy with a Bachelors in English and masters in Film starts a giant social networking website... While your college education doesn't neccesarily dictate one's life, this is a bit of a stretch for me. And, Trent Lapinski (author of the above article) has done a lot of research on this. He's a lot more of a reputable source than MySpace fanboys...
- I'm calling for something about this to be included, though admittedly it probably belongs on the myspace page rather than on his biog. Both wouldn't neccesarily go amiss.
[edit] Homosexual?
I'm pretty sure this section is a fake accusation, meant just to make him look bad. It was added by an IP-only editor, with no sources, and even spells masturbating as masterbating. (I removed it for now, if someone has some actual sort of source, then re-add it) Opblaaskrokodil 21:13, 30 September 2006 (UTC)
Actually, I thought he was gay, which was mentioned in an article that I read a year or so ago. --Raderick 10:50, 2 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Tom doesn't drink alcoholic beverages
http://www.nwfdailynews.com/articleArchive/oct2006/expandingdrinking.php
Tom Anderson prefers Diet Coke. He doesn't drink alcohol. However, on a recent trip to the Great Wall of China, during a business trip, he tried red wine. Sillygirlysays 19:37, 24 October 2006 (UTC)sillygirlysays
[edit] Famous Internet "Sight" founders
"Famous Internet Sight Founders" was removed from categories. Whoever edited that in sure doesn't know how to spell, not to mention no such category exists. Mrkurto 03:04, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
==Contraversy?==
Is it really needed? He does not fully control myspace, so i belive critisim to myspace should be kept on the myspace page. It's not part of his biography
- The anon IP user who removed the controversy section used a IP which is registered to Twentieth Century Fox, a subsidiary of News Corp, the owners of MySpace. Bwithh 00:28, 9 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Seattle?
What's up with somebody saying Seattle is the best city in the world? For your knowledge, Seattle is one of the least-safe cities in the United States. 24.88.236.89 04:19, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
eh? Bwithh 05:41, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
- Somebody added this, and this person must've read the article before it was reverted.
[edit] Tom on BPM magazine
Tom was just on the cover a BPM magazine http://www.bpmdigital.com. I think this is one of the few covers he's allowed himself to be on (besides Newsweek). Should this be added to cultural ref? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Infiltrat3d (talk • contribs) 19:47, 19 December 2006 (UTC).
