The manuscript known as the 'Van Hulthem manuscript' is a masterpiece of medieval Dutch literature. Its content is extremely rich and varied, as it was once summarized in the following pithy expression : 'all of life’s intensity in one volume'.
Nickname: 'the Night Watch of Middle Dutch literature'.
The manuscript is named after its last private owner, Charles Van Hulthem.
If it hadn't been for this manuscript, we would have not known about the famous 'abele spelen'.
