Spiritchaser (1996) bol posledný štúdiový album Dead Can Dance predtým než sa cesty Brendana Perryho a Lisy Gerrard rozišli. Čo sa týka štýlu pokračuje príklon k world music, podobne ako na albume Into the Labyrinth, čerpá hlavne z hudby severnej Afriky a Južnej Ameriky. Spiritchaser bol nahratý v Quivvy Church, v Írsku.Album vyšiel vo formátoch CD a LP. Melódia skladby Indus sa veľmi podobá melódii piesne Beatles Within You Without You, ktorú zložil George Harrison s indickými hudobníknmi. Hoci táto podobnosť nebola zo strany Dead Can Dance zámerná, nakoniec museli požiadať Harrisona o súhlas a vydavateľstvo ešte trval o na tom, aby Harrison bol uvedený ako spoluautor skladby.
