[edit] Summary
Image shows the All-for-Ireland League (AFIL) band parading through Castletownbere, County Cork, Ireland, in 1910 . Many towns at that time in Munster had a tradition of marching bands, a very old tradition in Castetownbere. In the early years of the last century towns in Munster often boasted two rival fife and drum bands. One composed of supporters od the Redmonite party's Ancient Order of Hibernians, the other band backing the O'Brienite AFIL party. Many stories are told of "incidents" between the bands on Sunday parades, particularly during a stormy 1913 by-election when the bands instruments were used for more than making music.
