7 Waves is an FM radio station broadcasting to the Wirral, Merseyside, U.K.
The station is regulated by the Office of Communications, usually known as Ofcom, the UK's communications regulator.
7 Waves began life as a community radio station, broadcasting on a series of RSL (Restricted Service Liscence) from OFCOM, administrated and founded by John Martin of Leasowe Community Centre; a community worker who wanted to set up a local radio station to entertain, educate and inform residents who lived in Wirral. Martin alongside station co-ordinator, Pauline Murphy worked tirelessley for years to find the funds needed to launch a temporary radio station and at the same time create a 16 week training course for budding broadcasters.
7 Waves was awarded a permanent broadcasting licence in 2006 to broadcast 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year from late 2007 on a new FM frequency.
In 2006 the station received confirmation of a £1million grant from the Merseyside European One Objective Fund. A brand new £2million state of the art centre with 2 new live on air studios, also including a 'live room' where local bands will show off their talents and provide live entertainment. A mobile outside broadcast unit will bring residents local news as it happens and also a training area for the local community.
