amNewYork is a daily free morning newspaper published in New York City. When it launched in October 2003, amNewYork was the first newspaper of its kind in New York. The paper is distributed both by workers ("hawkers," who sport red amNewYork vests) near NYC transportation points and in enclosed newspaper holders ("honor boxes") located on sidewalks and street corners in areas of high pedestrian traffic.
In the summer of 2006 amNewYork teamed up with Nokia and Wi-Fi Salon to provide New Yorkers with free wireless news and entertainment information in 10 of the city's parks.[1]
amNewYork is owned by the Tribune Company, which also publishes Newsday, and heavily draws its content from Newsday and other Tribune properties. Its main competitor is now New York Metro, which followed amNewYork into the market using many of the same distribution and marketing strategies.
According to the publisher's advertiser media kit, average daily circulation as of the second quarter of 2005 was 317,315.[2]
