In particular the Arasu cements, the Birla cements, the Sakthi cements, the Dalmia cements, the Tamil Nadu cements, etc. are situated in Ariyalur. So Ariyalur is one of the busiest transport cities. It is also familiar for the Kaliyaperumaal Temple situated at 5 km from Ariyalur. The famous Kangaikonda cholapuram is situated near to it. This town is famous for the temple which was built by the King Rajendra Cholan of Chola's Empire. The King Rajendra Cholan is the son of RajaRaja Cholan who built Tanjore Big Temple.
And the important thing is that it is famous for fossils. Some 5 or 6 years ago, the people who were engaged in mining the lime stone found a big egg among the mine stones. What a surprise! It is found to be a dinosaur egg that dates back millions of years ago.
Apart from the dinasaur egg, lot of fossils are still available in Ariyalur.
