Bandarlapalle is a small village in the Palmaner Taluk of Chittoor District of Andhra Pradesh in India. It is mainly a farming community. As with all other villages in India, Bandarlapalle was very backward and under developed until recently. However, since the last decade there has lot of developmental work taken place, with good roads, drinking water and schools being built, mainly due to the efforts of the first generation of educated people from the village like Jayappa Yadav, Aarella Gangaiah, Aarella Anandappa, Chandrappa and others.
This village is a good example of how education and literacy brings prosperity to a community. The village is situated in the South East of Deccan Plateau. It was a mini republic in itself with all the requirements of people being met in the village itself. Nobody knows about the past of the village or how it came into being there. There are some places of historic significance around Bandarlapalle like Sitamma Konda and Ramakuppam.
About ten miles from Bandarlapalle the Deccan Plateau ends in a dense forest range, sloping down into the plains of Tamilnadu. There are many old people in this village like Muniyappa Gowda’s mother Muniyamma who has not left the village for the past 50 years and has no plans of leaving it in near future, they both belong to the Aarella Gowda family..
Agriculture mainly depends on the seasonal monsoon rains, excessive rain water is stored in the two man made lakes, which is a feature of every village in the Deccan Plateau of south India. The main crops are Ragi, Rice, Groundnuts, Wheat and Pulses. People also get themselves involved in farming sheep and goat, which is the main profession of most Kuruba Gowdas who are a majority people in the village.
Important festival of this village is Sankranthi , the festival of harvest which is celebrated to thank the god almighty for the good harvest. The main attraction is the Bull race, which attracts people from surrounding towns and villages.
The second generation of educated people from this small and remote village have made names in different fields and have gone on to live in countries like United Kingdom and United States.
