[edit] merge with other types of recording devices?
There are a number of very similar recording devices for other quantities, such as the thermograph for temperature, the hygrograph for humidity, and the meteorograph that basically has all three in one device. There's not much point in having four separate articles in my mind, so would anyone object to a merge? I'd propose meteorograph as perhaps the most neutral of those four names (not implying any one of temperature, pressure, or humidity), but I'm open to other suggestions as well. --Delirium 10:48, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
- Barographs are also used in aviation for measuring altitude. You will need a citation for the main heading name, don't just make one up. Also you need to apply merge tags to all 4 articles for a period of time to collect comments. Dhaluza 11:36, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
- I just checked around a bit and found over 50 articles linking to barograph. Also these are types of chart recorders, so it could also be argued that they should all be combined. I suggest combining Thermograph and Hygrograph under Thermo-hygrograph for now. I created the stubs and tags. 12:18, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
- I hardly made up meteorograph; it's a well-known term with at least 200 or so years of use. But perhaps chart recorder is a more straightforward term? I see we already have a decent article there, but it seems to duplicate a lot of this. In any case I didn't put a merge template on because I'm just raising the idea for now and looking for suggestions (I posted a comment on the Weather WikiProject as well); I don't plan to actually merge them yet. --Delirium 16:51, 10 January 2007 (UTC)
