Bill Weasley (born 29 November, 1970)[1][2] is a fictional character in the Harry Potter series, the oldest son of Molly and Arthur Weasley and the brother of Charlie, Percy, Fred, George, Ron, and Ginny. The name Bill is probably short for Bilius, which was his father's brother's name; as it is known that wizard families often repeat names through the generations.
Bill attended Hogwarts as a Gryffindor from 1982 to 1989, becoming both a prefect and Head Boy. Later, he worked for Gringotts Bank in Egypt as a Curse- Breaker (meaning that he took Arithmancy at Hogwarts, and must have passed the subject, as it is revealed in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix in the chapter Career Advice that Gringotts Curse-Breakers must have an O.W.L. at this subject)
In Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Bill returns to Britain to work for the Order of the Phoenix. After a year of knowing Fleur Delacour and a lot of "private lessons" in English, Bill proposes to Fleur and she accepts. In The Half-Blood Prince, Bill and Fleur are engaged to be married, and the summer before Harry and Ron's sixth year of school Bill brings his fiancée to get to know his family.
Prior to the events in the sixth book, he is described as being a good looking young man (when Fleur sees him in The Goblet of Fire, she is impressed and eyes him with "great interest") and has long red hair tied back in a ponytail and single fang earring. In fact, Harry notes that a guy like Bill would not be out of place at a rock concert, and Harry is surprised that Bill (perfect student, prefect and Head Boy at Hogwarts) is so unlike Percy. Bill's unorthodox looks makes his mother Mrs Weasley despair, although everyone else is fine with it. Ginny especially looks up to her eldest brother. Bill fought bravely in the Battle of Hogwarts, but did not escape unscathed. The werewolf Fenrir Greyback savaged Bill, albeit in his human form, and caused lycanthropy contamination to an unknown, partial extent. According to Remus Lupin, who is also a werewolf, this was not enough to cause actual transformations, though Bill has apparently developed a liking for extremely rare steaks and is left with a deeply scarred face. His and Fleur Delacour's plans to marry are unchanged, Fleur declaring that she does not mind the scars and that she has always considered the English to over-cook their meat in any case; this attitude has gained her a lot of respect from Bill's otherwise disapproving family, especially Bill's mother.
