[edit] Early life
Bow Wow was born in Columbus, Ohio to Teresa and Alfonso Moss. His father left the family, though Bow Wow says they are still keeping in contact. Bow Wow's mother worked three jobs. It has been said he resembles his father and his father is of creole descent, and his mother re-married to Rodney Caldwell; Bow Wow grew up with his step-father and has two step-siblings. When he was five, he started his career in rap using the moniker "Kid Gangsta". One year later, in 1993, he performed at a Chronic tour in Columbus, and was noted by rappers Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, who subsequently gave him a stage name, "Lil' Bow Wow".[2] Dr. Dre later hired him as an opening act, officially gaining him a spot on the Death Row Records roster.[3] Also "Lil' Bow Wow" appeared on a skit on Snoop's debut Doggystyle.By 1998, Bow Wow was introduced to record producer Jermaine Dupri,[2] who helped shape his career.

Bow Wow dated R&B Singer Ciara for about a year before splitting up. Rumors stated that they split up because Bow Wow had cheated on her and brought a stripper into his hotel room after the Kid's Choice Awards. However the rumors where proven false when a representative of Ciara said the couple had split up way before the incident. According to Bow Wow, the couple had split up because they wanted to do different things in life. Bow Wow's song Outta My System featuring T-Pain, is dedicated to Ciara. Previous to the break-up they had a hit single together Like You.

Bow Wow has had guest appearances on Brandy's TV sitcom, Moesha as well as The Steve Harvey Show.Bow Wow made his major acting debut in 2002's Like Mike which was released on July 3, 2002, where he starred as a young orphan who gets a shot at the NBA. Previous to Like Mike he made a cameo in All About The Benjamins as Kelly. He co-starred with Cedric the Entertainer, Vanessa Williams, and Solange Knowles in Johnson Family Vacation. Since the success of Like Mike, Bow Wow has starred in several Hollywood films with one being Roll Bounce and the latest being The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift, released on June 16, 2006. Bow Wow was a guest star on the television show Smallville in November 2006 in the episode entitled "Fallout".

Bow Wow along with other recording artists such as P!nk , Avril Lavigne, Eve, Kelly Rowland, ex-Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro join actresses Brittany Murphy, Charlize Theron, Rosario Dawson and Eva Mendes in ads for "empowerment tag" for the ALDO Fights AIDS campaign.The tags, worn as necklaces or bracelets, go on sale at ALDO stores March 1st and benefit the YouthAIDS initiative.

- He currently owns his own record label called LBW Entertainment, a.k.a. LB Dub ENT, which is mentioned on the lyrics of his chart-topping single Shorty Like Mine.
- Rappers like Miss Nana from Newark,NJ and Khleo Thomas are currently signed to his label.
- His first single borrows from the Dr. Dre song Fuck Wit Dre Day, where his name came from too.
- His next upcoming album will feature producing work by Jermaine Dupri, Akon, Scott Storch & Kanye West.
