Brother Hal

Brother Hal is a minor character in the fictional series Redwall by Brian Jacques. He appears in the book Salamandastron. He is a recorder mouse of Redwall Abbey, it is his job to write down events and keep a record of everything that happens. He dies early on in the book as a result of an archery accident caused by two so-called "stoats" (another word for sailors and vermin that is used in the series), Dingeye and Thura, who were visiting the Abbey (Redwall), and thereafter the stoats promptly leave, and take The Sword of Martin with them, which has only just recently been recovered. This twist in the plot drives Samkim the squirrel and his sidekick Arula the mole to set out on a quest to recover Martin the Warrior's sword and bring it back to Redwall Abbey, which requires him to leave his home on a long journey.
