Pombo-Sáenz (short for Pombo y Sáenz de Tejada) works in the US as General Manager and News Director for News 12 Networks, managing News 12 The Bronx in New York City since August1998 and News 12 Brooklyn since January 2005.

Pombo-Sáenz was born in Madrid, Spain. Camilo is the first-born of his generation and patriarch and principal of one of the most ancient and prominent families in Spain (1219.) 17 companies gather under the umbrella of Grupo Marqués. Among them, car dealers, (Audi, Maserati, Alfa Romeo and Fiat.) Tile factories in four cities in Spain. International bank investors in Europe, and rosters of the legendary Café Pombo.

Pombo-Sáenz loved journalism from a very young age. His contact with the public arena started through his father, Luis Eduardo Pombo y Vivar, Spain’s Ambassador to France, Italy and Portugal, and his grand father, Sebastián Pombo de La Hortúa, 3 times Spain’s Secretary of State and close adviser and friend to Francisco Franco and the first Spain's ambassador to the UN. As the first born of his generation and the inheritor of the family’s last name and two marquis titles, (Logroño y el Pombal) Camilo was always in touch with politicians and newsmakers. At the age of 10 Pombo-Sáenz hosted a weekly children’s program at Radio Nacional de España (National Radio of Spain.)

In 1969 Pombo-Sáenz became a general assignment reporter for RTVE, the Spanish Television Network in Spain (today’s TVE.) In 1972 he became the political and international correspondent and was sent to Paris as bureau chief and after that to cover the post Viet Nam war. In 1975 he covered the Khmer Republic collapse in Cambodia and Khmer Rouge forces occupation of Phnom Penh and the North Vietnamese victory in South Vietnam. In 1979 he was appointed as Itinerant Correspondent for TVE and covered a number of historic events. In 1981 he covered the Assassination Attempt on President Reagan. Pombo-Sáenz interviewed one-on-one Mao Zedong in 1973, Golda Meir in 1974, Moammar Gadhafi In 1981 and Fidel Castro In 1982. He covered the Falkland Islands conflict between England and Argentina in 1982 and the bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Beirut in 1983. In 1985, he was awarded for coverage of the deadly eruption of Nevado del Ruiz In Colombia, S.A. He also reported the Challenger Shuttle Explosion and Chernobyl Nuclear Accident In 1986.

In 1989 Pombo-Sáenz moved to the USA and started working for Channel 11 WPXI (the NBC affiliate in Pittsburgh, PA) as a morning part time editor for the early newscasts. While in Channel 11, in 1991 he was called to work for CNN’s Spanish division in Atlanta. In 1995 he was hired as news director for WXTV, Channel 41 the Univision station in New York City In 1998 he was appointed as General Manager and News Director for News 12 The Bronx achieving acclaimed reviews for its meteoric growth. After only one year the hyper local news organization became the first source for news in The Bronx.
[edit] The “Pombo Project”
While at News 12 Pombo-Sáenz created and designed the “Pombo Project.” A program created to help television reporters without any experience get a chance to prove themselves on-air. The result of this effort is more than 30 reporters in markets 25 or better, including NBC, Fox News Network, WCBS, WNBC and WABC among others.

Camilo studied Journalism at Columbia University in New York, and has a “Honoris Causa” degree in philosophy from the Complutense University in Madrid, Spain. He has won many national and international awards such as the “King of Spain” award for best journalist in Spain and Latin America, “Ondas” Best Investigative Reporting and a national Emmy among many others.
Pombo-Sáenz is an opera connoisseur, an accomplished piano and harpsichord player, a fierce tennis player and a Formula One devotee. He lives in New jersey US with his wife, the internationally awarded Catalonian photographer Julia Zéa-Uribe and his two daughters, Mónica and María Camila.
