Campbell Mattinson

Campbell Mattinson is an Australian writer and critic who has specialised in wine since 2000. He began a journalism cadetship in 1987 and has worked as a journalist, editor, publisher, and freelance writer ever since. He has also spent time working for a stockbroker in Birmingham, England, as a dishwasher in an Indian restaurant, and as a proof reader of telephone directories.

He has been the publisher and editor of the web-based wine site and newsletter The Wine Front since May 2002. He contributes articles to The Bulletin and Gourmet Traveller Wine in Australia, and has published widely through food and wine magazines since 2000.

He has recently released a biography of one of the pioneers of the Australian wine industry, Maurice O'Shea, called "Wine Hunter". Respected Australia wine writer James Halliday described it as "One of the most remarkable wine books to come my way". Respected Australian wine critic Max Allen wrote that "this is the best book on wine to be published in Australia for many, many years". Respected Australian wine writer Jeni Port wrote "Wine Hunter is a breakthrough wine book: an astonishing, cerebral, emotional entanglement of fact and dramatisation, of tender detail and beautiful, expressive words. Campbell Mattinson has won sports writing awards and short story awards in Australia, and more recently awards for his wine writing. He was born in 1968 in Williamstown, Melbourne, Australia, has spent the vast bulk of his time living in Melbourne's western suburbs, and currently divides his time between Porepunkah and Harrietville in Victoria's rugged north-east mountain district. He is married to writer Thalia Kalkipsakis, has two children, Porter and Elm and a cat named Bindi.
