Canadian Nurses Association

The Canadian Nurses Association is a federation of 11 provincial and territorial registered nurses associations representing more than 126,000 Canadian registered nurses. Currently Marlene Smadu is the president of the CNA.

In 1908, representatives from nurses associations around Canada were invited to meet by the Canadian Society of Superintendents of Training Schools for Nurses. At this meeting the Provisional Society of the Canadian National Association of Trained Nurses was formed. Mary Agnes Snively was named founding president. The CNATN took its members from societies such as graduate nurse and alumini associations. In 1924, the CNATN changed its name to the Canadian Nurses Association.
