Canary Wharf Group
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Canary Wharf Group plc is a British property company, whose main business is the development, ownership and management of the Canary Wharf estate in Isle of Dogs, London.
Canary Wharf Group was formed in 1994 as a refinancing of the Canary Wharf project following the failure of the original developer Olympia and York. However, many of the management from Olympia and York survived into the new company, most notably Paul Reichmann as Chairman and George Iacobescu as Executive Director and later Chief Executive.
During the 1990's the company saw rapid growth, becoming briefly the UK's largest property company.[citation needed]
In 2004 the company was bought by Songbird Estates, a Morgan Stanley led vehicle which is now listed on the Alternative Investment Market in London.
In January 2007, Canary Wharf's subsidiary Norquil gained planning permission for 4 million sq ft office scheme north of One Canada Square.
Some other developments of Songbird Estates include
- Aspen Way
- Westferry Circus
- 15 Canada Square
- 10 Churchill Place
