Prince Alexander of Hesse-Darmstadt

Hi Charles, thanks for the link with Meißen. my opinion is to use the ß but I know that that does not get a full majority so i've kinda given up on that discussion for the moment. see also Voßstraße.... I say just write it the way it's officially written, and cut the gordian knot. about the Prince of Hesse-Darmstadt, sorry but I am not convinced on that one, where does it say he was of Hesse and by Rhine? and are we not allowed to use dynastic names instead of sovereignties as well, see Bourbon-Parma? maybe better to start a discussion on that one, I can always be convinced otherwise as you of course know.... enjoy your summer :-) sincerely Gryffindor 07:20, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

I don't understand then why Louis II, Grand Duke of Hesse is not by Rhine as well, shouldn't that be moved as well? Your request has been fullfilled, please check on any links that need to be fixed in order to lead directly to the article. Gryffindor 11:31, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

Parser functions

Just in case you may find it interesting, ParserFunctions aren't all that complicated ... once you know their fairly straight-forward syntax. A template, say {{German transl}} with the contents:

The German word ''{{{1}}}'' means, in English, ''{{
  #switch: {{{1}}}
  | wilkommen = welcome
  | Sonnenuntergang = sunset
  | Hertz = heart
  | rennen = to run
  | Rennen = a race
}}''.

should produce:

{{German transl|Hertz}} The German word Hertz means, in English heart.
{{German transl|rennen}} The German word rennen means, in English to run.

Basically, whenever you reach a switch, you take the parameter (the thing behind the pipe, '|': {{German transl|parameter}}) and choose which entry (after the equal sign, '=') you use depending on the key (before the equal sign). (you can also choose to use the second parameter, by placing {{{2}}} after "#switch:" or even a named one, but that is better dealt with at m:ParserFunctions. Make sense? --Swift 21:29, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

Titles of Alexia of Greece

Hi Charles,

I was wondering if you had any information on the titles of Princess Alexia of Greece and Denmark. It states that after her birth and prior to her brother's, she was titled as Crown Princess of Greece, Princess of Denmark. I am not sure that females can even ascend to the throne of Greece, and have never heard of the title ever being held by a female. Just curious if you knew any different.

Have a great weekend and thanks,

Prsgoddess187 01:15, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the help Charles. I am sure that if they used a Salic system we would have heard about it; and your analogy was spot on... Have a great weekend... Prsgoddess187 14:03, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

Alexandra of Edinburgh / Saxe-Coburg & Gotha

Hi Cfvh, note your comments however her father after succeeding to the duchy, her parents were known as the Duke and Duchess of SC&G predominantly - also her page is "Alexandra of Edinburgh & SCG" - do you think this should be changed? - there is no dispute that she was a SCG princess, therefore dont get the problem with using it. Move

Hi, Charles. I posted a message on the Administrators' Noticeboard about the move request to get more opinions about whether the move is a good idea and about the decision I made not to move the article at the present time. Hopefully, it'll get some responses soon. Talk to you later, Kjkolb 15:38, 28 August 2006 (UTC)

Maximilian zu Wied-Neuwied

hi Charles, how are you? Could you take a look at this case Maximilian zu Wied-Neuwied and tell me what you think, should it be renamed? Gryffindor 13:42, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

How did Queen Anne of Romania not get moved? IMO there was a majority vote, even if not many participated in it. Gryffindor 14:18, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
And this one? Maria Antonietta of Naples? Gryffindor 17:20, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
Shouldn't Marie Louise, Duchess of Parma be rather "Marie Louise of Austria, Duchess of Parma" in order to reflect her former consort status? Kinda like Irene of Greece, Duchess of Aosta? Gryffindor 17:26, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Prince Christoph of Hesse Cassell

Hi Cfvh, you seem to know quite a lot about european royalty. I believe that Prince Christoph of Hesse Cassel (first husband of Sophie of Greece) was a decendant of Queen Victoria. I have tried to discover the line of descent on the internet but cannot find anything. Can you shed any light? Thanks Cristien Nikolas 16:48, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

  • Thanks! I searched everywhere but could not find the info, much appreciated! Victoria's lot are so inter-related it is easy to get confused!. Cristien Nikolas 17:03, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Sorry to bother you again, one more question - when I created the page on Princess Sophie of Greece and Denmark, I assumed (incorrectly) that as she married Christoph of Hesse and not Hesse-Cassel. Thinking that her children were members of the Grand Ducal Family of Hesse, I listed them as "Grand Ducal Highness" - but as Hesse-Cassel is not a Grand Duchy, but a principality, would Christoph and his children be styled "Serene Highness"? If so, I will amend the page. Thanks again, Cristien Nikolas 18:02, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

  • Thanks for that, thanks for updating Sophie's page. I have also updated Christoph's page to show "Highness". Cristien Nikolas 18:44, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

Kissing cousins

I have to disagree. Right or wrong, it is common for people to use "kissing cousins" for that level of cousin where it is legal or moral to marry, as in "after third cousins come your kissing cousins," but hey, I won't get into a Wiki-war about it.BudMann9 18:46, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

your message

hey there, I cannot get a user banned like User:82.48.229.72 unless I have substantial evidence that indeed s/he did something terribly wrong. The I.P. address did not even violate the three-revert rule, which would really get someone into trouble. The only thing I can do right now is to slap a sockpuppet tag for starters, but as a sysop I can only block someone, or request a ban only in the most extreme cases of Wikipedia:Vandalism, and even in those cases you need multiple administrators to bring up a case, sorry that's just how the rules work here. Should you encounter further trouble with this user such as a three-revert rule break though, let me know, ok? Gryffindor 21:40, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

I know it can be frustrating at times, but if you take the right steps and do the right thing, you will eventually win in the end, trust me. happy editing... :-) Gryffindor 21:43, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

Moved page

Hi. Regarding your moving the article Prince Antonio of Orleans-Braganza to "Prince Antonio of Orléans-Braganza", in order to include the diacritic, as you mentioned in your edit summary, do you have a source for this? What I mean is, when we started creating articles for the members of the Brazilian royals, we had a previous discussion, and evidence was brought forward that, in English, the name of the family would be "Orleans-Braganza" (no diacritic). Of course, if you have evidence to the contrary, we'd be happy to review that, but if not, the English Wikipedia must comply with the common rules of the English language, in spite of the graphic forms of other languages (such as French or Portuguese), which would mean that the article would need to be moved back to its previous location.
Usually, if you have sources to back any such action, name them in your edit summary, or in the talk page; if you don't, and your action may be challenged, it is always better to start a discussion before moving the article. Regards, Redux 05:05, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the reply. That being the case, we might have to move other articles on Brazilian royals as well. The template should show them all. Redux 14:46, 7 October 2006

Vittorio Emanuele, Prince of Naples

If you have an interest and time to spare could you please take a look at this article. Earlier today you attempted to reverse blanking of much of the article. The user in question then repeated the blanking and has continued to do so throughout today despite my best efforts. --SandyDancer 14:42, 9 October 2006 (UTC)
