Cherry Monroe is a band originating from Youngstown, Ohio. They made their way into the American pop music industry with their debut single "Satellites" in July 2005. It reached #85 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The band formed in 2004 with Matt Toka (lead), Jason Levis (drums), David Saltman (bass), and Ryan Harris (guitar). Another guitarist, Frankie Bennett, joined later. They were originally called "The Velvet Idols" until their first record label, Cleveland-based Rust Records told them to change their name and hand-picked "Cherry Monroe" for them.
In July 2006, lead vocalist Matt Toka announced his departure from the band. The remaining four members are currently searching for a new lead singer and have suspended live shows until a replacement is found.
