Christopher Wickham

Christopher John Wickham (born 1950) is the Chichele Professor of Medieval History at Oxford University. His special interests are in early medieval Europe and in 12th century Italian society.

He was Professor of Medieval History at Birmingham University before becoming Chichele Professor of Medieval History at Oxford University in 2005. In January 2007, The American Historical Association awarded Wickham its James Henry Breasted Prize for his book Framing the Early Middle Ages, which also won the 2005 Wolfson History Prize and the 2006 Deutscher Memorial Prize.
