Cielos Airlines, commonly known by its old name Cielos del Peru, is a cargo airline based in Callao, Peru. It operates scheduled, ad hoc and contract charter domestic and international cargo services. Historically it is specialized in the transportation of perishable goods. Furthermore it focuses on the transportation of live animals, dangerous goods and valuable goods.

Its principal hub is Miami International Airport, where the corporate offices of its parent company (AMC - Alliance Management Center) are based.

As a subsidiary of AMC, it is a sister company to Centurion Air Cargo (CWC) and to Master Top Airlines - MTA (Brazilian Carrier) operating one DC10-30F

The airline was established in 1997 and started operations in 1998. It started operations with a Boeing 707 and a leased McDonnell Douglas MD-11. The fleet grew to a total of 8 aircrafts at the end of 2006.

[edit] Incidents and accidents

On July 6, 2003, Petete a DC-10-30F(CF) with registration number OB-1749 skidded of runway 33 in wet conditions at Afonso Pena International Airport, Curitiba, Brazil. Neither one of the 4 crew members were injured but the accident damaged one of the airplane's engines and its landing gear.

On November 17, 2006, Petete IV a DC-10-30F(CF) with registration number N305FE overran runway 05 while landing in bad weather at Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport, Barranquilla, Colombia. All 7 crew members were injured. The airplane came to rest 60 m past the runway with a collapsed nose gear.

The airplanes in the Cielos Airlines fleet are christened Petete, Petete II, Petete III, ... Named after (the nickname of) the airline owner’s son, with Petete meaning pacifier in the owners local language.
