Collins Line

The Collins Line is the common name for the American shipping company started by Israel Collins and then built up by his son E. K. Collins.

The Collins Line, as it was commonly known at the time, were the ships and lines run by the shipping company, I. G. Collins (later I. G. Collins and Son). With E. K. Collins at its helm, the company leveraged the cotton shortage of 1825 in England to become a world-wide comeptitor against such famous companies as Cunard. It sailed last in 1858.
