Commerce National Bank, (NASDAQ: FRME) is a commercial bank founded in 1991 with over a half of $1 billion in assets headquartered in Columbus, Ohio with a regional office in Cincinnati, Ohio. Commerce provides a variety of banking services to small and mid-sized businesses.
Within its business-only niche, Commerce National Bank is known for its specialty in healthcare finance. This speciality has garnered it the reputation as the bank for dentists, physicians, veterinarians, and other healthcare practitioners throughout the Midwest and beyond.
Dr. James Newton, a professor at the Ohio State University, serves as the bank's Chief Economic Advisor. In 2003, First Merchants Corporation acquired Commerce National Bank and joined CNB with the other First Merchants affiliate banks. In 2007 there are plans to expand to a third Midwest city.
Commerce National Bank is the third largest bank bearing the name Commerce behind Commerce Bancorp NYSE: CBH, a retail bank headquartered in Cherry Hill, New Jersey and Commerce Bancshares, also a retail bank headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri.
