A cop is a word used to describe Constables, Sheriffs, Police, Prison Guards and other Law Enforcement Officers. The term 'Cop' is shortened form of 'copper'. 'Copper' is a slang noun derived from the verb 'cop' meaning 'to catch or capture'. A 'copper' is a police officer that captures or cops criminals. The word 'cop' in its noun form is a shortened version of 'copper'.[1]
