Suffolk County Road 14 is a county road in Suffolk County, New York. It runs north and south from County Road 67 in East Commack to New York State Route 25A in Kings Park. It runs parallel to the Sunken Meadow State Parkway between it's southern terminus and Cowie Road.
Two roads are part of Suffolk CR 14. Harned Road originally began as the Commack Spur of the Long Island Motor Parkway, designed to connect motorists from the parkway to Jericho Turnpike. When Motor Parkway was downgraded, the spur was acquired by the Suffolk County Department of Public Works. The second, and longest section of Suffolk CR 14 is Indian Head Road, which meanders through the hills near former sand and gravel pits towards the Long Island Sound.
Former segments of Indian Head Road include Old Indian Head Road, which was made when Sunken Meadow State Parkway was built in the area, and is located on the west side of that parkway. The other is a narrow street called Cowie Road, which is located in the same area, but connects to Indian Head Road on both ends. A third former section exists on the notheast corner of Old Northport Road(formerly proposed Suffolk CR 108), which is also named Old Indian Head Road. All three streets are maintained by the Town of Smithtown.
In 1978, New York State Department of Transportation built an interchange to and from the northbound lane of the Sunken Meadow State Parkway, in order to prevent accidents from motorists trying to crossing NY 25 to get to Suffolk CR 14 at Exit SM 3E. This interchange was designated Exit SM 3A. West-to-northbound motorists use the on-ramp from this newer interchange to get to the parkway.
Suffolk County Road 14 ends at New York State Route 25A just two blocks east of County Road 11. North of NY 25A the road turns into Church Street, then Kohl Road and runs along the east side of Sunken Meadow State Park until reaching the St. Johnland Road.
