[edit] May the Force be with you.

Dear DakotaKahn/Archive16,

Thanks for voting on my RFA! I appreciate your faith in me, and was overwhelmed by the positive response to my RFA; for it shows that at least I'm doing something right. :) I've started working to improve myself already, and I hope that next time, things run better, and maybe, just maybe, one day we can bask on the shores of Admintopia together. Thanks and cheers, _-M o P-_ 21:50, 3 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Archiving

Hello Dakota -- Glad that we agree re those images. BTW the discussion page had gotten huge so I decided that this was a good moment to move most of it into an archive. -- Polaris999 08:34, 5 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Advice requested

Hello Dakota -- I'm hoping that you can tell me how I should handle this situation: We had a link in the "References" section to a site re Rosario; unfortunately, about two months ago this link went dead. Last night I removed it from "References", but since then I have been thinking that, since it was a reference, perhaps I need to leave it there with some kind of mention to the effect that it has now gone dead? Or is there some sort of established procedure for cases such as this? Thank you! -- Polaris999 18:39, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Problem User

Hola, Dakota -- When you have a chance, would you please take a look at a situation developing on CG? There is a user there who four times within the past hours has inserted accents onto the "e" of Che. I have reverted them 3 times and also went into the archives of the Talk page and pulled out the section re why that "e" is not accented and posted it on the current Talk page. I then referenced this explanation in my comment on the History page when I did the third revert of the accents, but he clearly is doing this simply to be annoying because he promptly added the accents again. I have no clue how to stop this behavior! -- Polaris999 20:21, 6 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Esperanza Newsletter, Issue #3

The Administrator Coaching program is a program aimed at preparing Wikipedians for Adminship or helping them understand the intricacies of Wikipedia better. Recently, changes have been made to the requirements of coachees. Please review them before requesting this service.
This would be something like the Welcoming Committee, but for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. Some might like suggestions about how to learn vandal patrol, or mentoring on taking an article to featured status, or guidance with a proposal they plan to make at the Village Pump, for example. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.
Stressbusters
The Stressbusters are a subset of Esperanza aiming to investigate the causes of stress. New eyes on the situation are always welcome!
Note from the editor
As always, MiszaBot handled this delivery. Thank you! Also, congratulations go to Pschemp, Titoxd and Freakofnurture for being elected in the last elections! An Esperanzial May to all of the readership!
  1. Posting logs of the Esperanza IRC channel are explicitly banned anywhere. Violation of this rule results in deletion and a ban from the channel.
  2. A disclaimer is going to be added to the Esperanza main page. We are humans and, as such, are imperfect.
  3. Various revisions have been made to the Code of Conduct. Please see them, as the proposal is ready to be ratified by the community and enacted. All members will members to have to re-confirm their membership after accepting the Code of Conduct.
  4. Referendums are to be held on whether terms of AC members should be lengthened and whether we should abolish votes full stop.
  5. Admin Coaching reform is agreed upon.
Signed...
Celestianpower, JoanneB, Titoxd, Pschemp and Freakofnurture

[edit] The Heard

Why did you revert you the copyvio tag on The Heard?Whitejay251 00:06, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

Thanks for the quick revert on my userpage, and the blocking of the vandal. It is greatly appreciated. --TeaDrinker 16:35, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Lancaster Uni IP vandalism.

Thanks for helping me keep on top of the vandalism - apologies if I hit revert on any of your edits :) -- 9cds(talk) 16:48, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Stalking me

I am giving you ONE request. Stop stalking me, stop accusing me of "vandalism" for leaving warnings to others not to violate wikipedia policy. And stop messing with my talk page. If you want to leave a cordial message that's fine. ForgetNever 17:22, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

A look at your contribs says otherwise.[1][2]--Dakota ~ 21:37, 8 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your email (?)

I've received an email claiming to be from you, but you don't have an email address set in preferences, so you shouldn't be able to send emails from the site. Can you please confirm that the email was actually from you? Zocky | picture popups 06:45, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] You back?

Your user page died!!! I hope this just means you are making a new one. Welcome back, DK! Kukini 21:26, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

Well...welcome back home, Gal! Hey...I move at the end of June myself...will be driving just north of you through New Mexico. Hope your move went well. Ya like my flag? Kukini 23:03, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
I was just told that I should lose the flag as it is not considered appropriate as it uses up bandwidth. Is this true? Kukini 23:27, 12 May 2006 (UTC)
I miss my flag...oh well. Kukini 23:27, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

Just as an FYI...I never did get your email. I emailed you directly as well. byefornow, Kukini 00:07, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Please Restore

You have no reason for speedily deleting my List of Jason Varitek's Awards article. If you had bothered to take a second look you would have seen the information is no longer duplicate. Please put it back to how it was. Zzz345zzz 18:15, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for restoring it, if you would like to check Jason Varitek you will not find the list. Also note that I DID put a hangon onto the page, but it was deleted by User:Zpb52 after I stated my case in the discussion which apparently you did not feel the need to read. Zzz345zzz 18:37, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

I DID put a hangon on the page but another admin (User:Zpb52) took it off and said that since I explained myself in the talk page it shouldnt be there any more. Check the history and my talk page its all there. Zzz345zzz 18:42, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

The user you mentioned is not an admin.--Dakota ~ 18:49, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

Details. I also noticed the following text in the hangon box, "To the author: Please remove this template after the explanation is written. This template is only to alert to the fact that your explanation is currently being written. Thereafter, your explanation should speak for itself." So do you want me to keep it up or not?Zzz345zzz 18:53, 13 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] A new quick question...

Is the following person an administrator? [3] He/she is acting as one, as he/she removed a speedy delete that I put up. Just curious. I will respond to your email shortly as well. Hope you are doing well. Kukini 21:12, 15 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] not vadalism?

I'm sorry, i'm a newbie to wikipedia, but isn't true that when there is a consensus reached that an article is not to be deleted, that the afd tag is removed? I could be wrong. I also was the original person to put it up for deletion, but then it was improved by the community due to the fact that it WAS a substandard page. Now that it is considered good, by consensus, don't you think that the afd tag should be gone. Please reply quickly, so I can know whether or not to remove it. Bolfan 17:01, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

Answered on your talk page.--Dakota ~ 20:49, 18 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] BOPP'D!

[edit] Question about deletion policy

Hi Dakota, this is user:LifeStar, and I have a question about the deletion policy for Wiki. The user user:Bolfan has inserted the deletion tag into the Veronica Belmont article, but after tracing the links, I found that he never listed it officially in the wiki deletion logs. A lot of people had responded to the article's deletion page, however, and so I am curious, would it be appriopiate to remove the deletion tag on the article now as it was never officially submitted for wiki deletion and that the deletion page discussion is heading towards a keep vote. What would you do? An anonIP removed the deletion tag without any knowledge of the policies, so I put the tag back. But after digging, found the user:Bolfan didn't do it correctly. What should I do? --LifeStar 03:36, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

Thank you very much Dakota for your quick response. I've been getting major headaches from annoying BOL fans who aren't helping the issue. Please let me know as soon as I can so I can help resolve all this craziness. Would very much like to take the delete tag off, but if we can't, then I'll help maintain the page until the 5 days are done. Thank you again! Really appreciate the help of another experienced wiki user. --LifeStar 03:57, 19 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Voting discussion

Hello,

I believe you should look at this:

  1. [4]
  2. [5]
  3. [6]

So clearly, a vote was deleted, Brendenhull voted, and then I had to restore my vote. 70.51.10.146 19:59, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

PS - my ISP changed my IP.

[edit] New pages patrol

May I ask about this? I was under the impression that userpages werent so much speediable as nn-bios, although I understand blocking this username. Mak (talk) 20:10, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

No, it's no problem, I'm just trying to be a good admin. and figure out if I'm generally doing the right thing, so when someone does an admin-ish action which is related to my admin action I try to figure out what's going on. Cheers, Mak (talk) 20:34, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Dickwittington

Hi, Dakota. Hope all is well with you. Since you've been involved in blocking and reverting Dickwittington (talk · contribs · logs · block user · block log), I thought you might be interested in this. Cheers. AnnH 21:00, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Image talks

Should Image talks that have:

  • Only a single sentence irrelavant to the Image
  • Have a single comment that was placed dating back a few years such as the year 2004
  • And pretty much nonsensical discussion

be deleted per WP:CSD? DGX 22:40, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

Something like the discussion on Image talk:007FYEOposter.jpg. It justs talks about how revealing the Images is. This talk page isn't worth saving, is it? DGX 22:51, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
(Belated) Thanks for responding. DGX 00:24, 21 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Stop warning me!

I did not delete anything. Look at my edits closer. I simply reformatted the page so that the large blank space in the middle of the page is missing. The picture you are accusing me of deleting is in the same place.

I didnt remove anything from the page. I just corrected the formatting by relocating the html tag for the picture. It corrects the large blank spot in the middle of the page. Please pay more attention next time before reverting my work.

Please pay more attention next time. I just corrected the formatting on the page. As I am one of the original sources of the content for this article, I would never vandalize my own work. I am simply correcting the problems caused by another's users reformatting.
