Danny Begara (born in Uruguay) is a former footballer and manager.
[edit] Playing Career
Bergara began his playing career at the age of 16 in the Uruguayan First Division, picking up a handful of under-21 caps for Uruguay, before moving to Spain in 1962 where he was top scorer for Real Mallorca for four seasons and Sevilla for two seasons.
While playing in Spain Bergara married an English travel guide, and when he retired from playing football they moved to England.
[edit] Managerial Career
Reserve Team Manager positions at Luton Town and Sheffield United were followed by First team appointments at Middlesbrough and Rochdale, Bergara had his most successful managerial spell with Stockport County, where he won them promotion and a number of Wembley appearances - 4 in total, though they lost all of them.
Bergara also managed the Brunei National team and the England Under-18 and Under-20 sides, with a World Youth Cup win also to his name. Finally, after Assistant Manager positions at Sheffield Wednesday and Rotherham United, he was installed as Manager at Doncaster Rovers, at the same time as the club were featured in a Channel 4 'fly-on-the-wall' documentary. In the Summer of 1998 he became manager of Grantham. A string of poor results saw Bergara become the clubs Director of Football and the club's Chief Scout, Tony Kenworthy, becoming manager.
He is now scouting for Sunderland.
