If you think about the heroes of the 1812 campaign, these are taken from the War Gallery and are available at www.hermitagemuseum.org. Cheers, --Ghirla -трёп- 06:53, 30 April 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you for your welcoming note. I have seen many reproductions of the paintings from the Hermitage Military Gallery in various locations on the Internet. However - on the Hermitage website they claim copyright on all the photos and have also a hidden id in the images. I assume this precludes all use in Wikipedia - Any ideas on how to get reproductions anywhere else? The paintings themselves have no copyright since most were painted before the death of the painter in 1829. Is there any way to link from my Swedish articles to images located on the English Wikipedia ? (for images not in the Wiki Commons) -Dr Fredrik Haeffner 08:37, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

- As best I know, the only way to link is to reupload images from en.wiki to the Commons (or to the sv.wiki). As for copyright... well, I don't know... I recollect having discussed the issue with admins and was told that whoever scans a historic work of art (e.g., Mona Lisa) cannot claim a copyright on this scan, because he doesn't create a new work of art or something along these lines.
