Edinburgh International Internet Festival 1999 - 2006
The Edinburgh International Internet Festival (E.I.I.Festival) was founded in 1999 by disabled artist and web designer PoL Steele as a freely provided gift to the online creative community from the artists of Edinburgh. To date the festival has featured artists, musicians, theatre companies community groups and creative individuals/organisations from over 55 nations.
After a two year break the festival returned in 2006 with ‘Community’ as a central theme and included an extensive range of exclusive content ranging from a special online photographic exhibition featuring the battleship ‘HMS Edinburgh’ to ‘The Moose In The Hoose’ project – a website featuring content produced by elderly residents from a selection of residential care homes across Edinburgh.
The ‘Silver Surfers Festival’ produced by Age Concern Edinburgh (ACE IT) which formed a core element of the E.I.I.Festival 2006 lead to ACE IT winning the category 'Raising the profile of older people within the city of Edinburgh' at the annual Get Up + Go Awards 2006 hosted by Edinburgh Council.
