Ercan International Airport (IATA: ECN, ICAO: LCEN), or Tymvou in Greek, is the principal airport of entry into the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
It is located northeast of the Cypriot capital city of Nicosia (Λευκωσία / Lefkoşa) near the village of Tymvou and it is not internationally recognized as a legal port of entry except by Turkey, the TRNC, and Azerbaijan (though the latter nation thus far only permits charter flights direct from Baku, not commercial). According to international law, the TRNC is not internationally recognized and any entry there is considered an illegal entry into its territory by the Republic of Cyprus.
Greece and the Republic of Cyprus have warned that any airliners flying to Northern Cyprus will be excluded from airports in Greece and the government-controlled areas of Cyprus. Greek and Cypriot authorities may deny anyone entry into either country if he/she has entered Northern Cyprus by a non-recognized airport.
