Erik Gnupsson or Eiríkr Gnúpsson also known as Henricus (late 1000s?-after 1121?) born in Iceland, he became a clergyman moved to Greenland to become the Bishop of Greenland at Garðar. In 1121 he reportedly made several trips to Northwest Vinland to visit Christian people. It is not clear where Northwest Vinland is exactly. Vinland is the Viking name given to North America however there disputes over how far inland the Vikings got into North America. Supposed Viking runestones have been found as far inland as Minnesota and Oklahoma. Alf Monge, a former US Army cryptographer asserted that the Oklahoma runestones were possibly made by Erik Gnupsson by trekking up the Mississippi River and its tributaries from the Gulf of Mexico, this claim is unsubstantiated. Very little is known about Erik Gnupsson.
