Everton

Everton is a district of Liverpool, Merseyside and a Liverpool City Council Ward. It consists of mainly council houses, generally more modern terraced homes and is statistically one of the most deprived areas of the city. The football club Everton F.C. is named after the area, after the location of their first ground, St. Domingo's Church. The district is also the location of the team's crest image, an old bridewell known as Prince Rupert's Tower.
The name Everton is derived from the saxon word eofor which meant "wild boar that lived in forests". [1]
Barker and Dobson, a local sweet manufacturer introduced "Everton Mints" to honour Everton football club.
The Liverpool entrance to the Kingsway Tunnel is located within the boundaries of this area.
