[edit] By the way

You can italicise text by adding '' to both sides of a word like ''this''. The html tags are discouraged. Broken S 02:27, 25 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

Re italics, gotcha. Thanks for the tip.

[edit] History of the Jews in Spain

An impressive and well drafted re-write! I appreciate someone else being interested in the topic, and you really added a lot of good stuff. Could you provide some sources, however, both for future readers and to support some of your arguments, however? Thanks. --Goodoldpolonius2 02:41, 25 September 2005 (UTC)

    References coming up! Ex0pos 02:47, 25 September 2005 (UTC)
Another thing worth doing would be to add some pictures or maps, to break up the text and make it a bit more attractive. See, for example, History of the Jews in Poland. I put some effort into that awhile ago, but I only came up with the few I posted. --Goodoldpolonius2 06:15, 26 September 2005 (UTC)

Good idea. I'll put that on my "to do" list... I'll get on that soon. And yes, I was also noticing a need for more graphics. Ex0pos 06:54, 26 September 2005 (UTC)

Oops, may not have been clear -- I think History of the Jews in Poland is actually in very good shape. I meant that the illustrations, format, and bite-sized text chunking in that article might be worth emulating. If you want to help on the History of the Jews articles, I think that Canada, the US, Germany, Iraq, Egypt, France, Poland, and Ireland are all in good shape. The History of the Jews in Hungary, Italy, and the Russia/USSR articles need quite a bit of work, though, since you seem to have a strong Sephardic interest, perhaps History of the Jews in Latin America and History of the Jews in Turkey might be better articles in need of your assistance. --Goodoldpolonius2 05:01, 28 September 2005 (UTC)
I think I could make some worthy contributions to the History of... Latin America. However, my background is in the earlier phases of settlement in the 16th - 17th centuries, where Sephardi participated in exploration and settlement under the Dutch flag. My knowledge is limited to this early period, when settlement was primarily in the Caribbean, and a couple of settlements along the northern coasts of South America (specifically, Surinam and Recife). So my contributions might be best placed in a "History of..." in The New World.

Basically, until the infux of immigrants into the United States around the turn of the last century, most of the Jews in the new world were of Sephardic ancestry, and their communities were spread out among the Caribbean -- not so much in Latin America.

Rather than have one article for "latin america" and another for "the new world," it might make more sense to have the article as "history of the jews in the new world."

I'm new around here: can article topics be renamed very easily?

You generally don't want to rename topics (which can be done with the "Move" button) without establishing a strong consensus to do so. In this case, we already have seperate articles on Canada, US, and Latin America, so renaming one of these articles to be about the New World would probably not be appropriate. You could either add an article on the early history ("The History of the Jews in Early America" or something) and reference it from the other articles through wikilinks, or you could create a new article on the Carribean, or you could add history to the Latin America article. Generally, you want to expand or create new articles and link them, rather than rename, since renaming is considered disruptive without a strong consensus. Also, one other note, you have to put the ":" in front of each line to get proper indentation. --Goodoldpolonius2 13:11, 28 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Categories

Hi. Just noticed your trouble putting a category on Kongo Gumi. For future reference, most of those sorts of categories are at 'Companies of XXX'. Like Category:Companies of Japan, which I already added. Cheers!--Sean Jelly Baby? 01:27, 30 September 2005 (UTC)

I was hoping somebody would notice my struggles and give me a hand. Thanks! -Ex0pos 14:31, 30 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image:Recared.jpg

Hello. Where did you take the file Image:Recared.jpg?--Panarjedde 10:34, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

I got that image from romancoins.info. The site's owner disclaimed copyrights in this particular image. Is that why you were asking? Ex0pos 22:21, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Question on "Seikilos Epitaph" page

The image file of the original Greek characters changed during the page's lifetime, and I was wondering why (since I don't speek or read Greek). I would very much like to use the Greek lyrics to embellish a ceramics project that I'm working on, but I want to etch the correct letters, and I noticed while searching the 'net that different versions of that image file exist.

such as:

 http://seikilos.com.ar/Seikilos.htm
 http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Seikilos.png

I noticed that in the old wikipedia version some of the letters are different(by my assumption) and also that the words aren't broken up to follow the rhythm of the song.

Anyway, what would be really helpful is if you would add directly editable text of the greek characters used to make the image on the updated page so that i could re-align them in photoshop and print my stencil. (I realize I'm asking for a chore, but I hope you'll humor me!) Any reply would be much appreciated, and in case this blather is on the wrong page I apologize in advance. I'm brand new to having an account on wikipedia. Thanks in advance for your help.
