The Arts is a broad subdivision of culture, comprised of many expressive disciplines. In modern usage it is a broader term than "art", which usually means specifically visual art (comprised of fine art and sometimes also applied art).

[edit] Sub-categorization
It's usually taboo to put something in both a category and its parent category. In this case, Category:Music, Category:Dance, and Category:Theatre are in both Category:Performing arts and Category:Arts. Shouldn't they just go in Performance arts? --Vossanova o< 20:28, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
