[edit] Plot
2013 AD. Humanity is on the brink of extinction. Natural disasters, starvation, wars, epidemics, and the sudden appearance of an army of evil, twisted monsters. A continuous series of events caused by the revival of demons in the modern world have reduced humanity's numbers to less than one billion. However, just as the few survivors were accepting the end of civilisation a beautiful woman appeared before them, dressed in black, with the powers of a witch and a giant gun shaped like a broom. Her name....Alicia.[1]
[edit] Characters
Alicia Voiced by Sarah Natochenny
- A beautiful witch on a journey to defeat the demons. Wields a huge gun known as the "gunrod", reminiscent of a broom, and has magical powers that can bend nature itself to her will. The reason why she possesses the same powers as the demons and yet fights against them remains a mystery.[1]
Darkness Voiced by Roger Parsons
- A formlesss demon that lurks in Alicia's consciousness. He aids Alicia with his powerful magic capable of drawing out numerous spells and his knowledge that was gained from surviving countless scrapes. His arrogant attitude is made clear through his nasty comments regarding humans, but for Alicia he is an irreplaceable partner and the only creature she can trust.[1]
[edit] Magic powers
- Ancient Wall - Available from the beginning. Summons a wall with ancient text written on it. Can give you cover and an effective way to hide from snipers. Wall deteriorates as it is shot at. When upgraded it creates an even stronger more durable wall.
- Element Shot - Creates a different element and effect to each form of the gun rod. The machine gun gains the fire elemental which adds a powerful punch to all of the shots fired in the gun rod's clip. The shotgun gains the wind elemental which adds an explosive effect, that sends enemies flying. The gatling gun gains the lightning element.
- Raven's Panic - Alicia calls upon a murder of ravens that attack the enemy causing them to become disabled and distraught, allowing some easy shots. When upgraded the amount of ravens increase, allowing more enemies to get attacked at once
- Rose Spear - Alicia throws rose petals on the ground, then large spears erupt from underneath the earth. All enemies in the area get impaled by the spears and burst into flames. When upgraded it increases the area that the spears come up from.
- Sacrifice - Available from the beginning. Can only be performed when near an injured human. Alicia cuts her arm and sprays her blood on the injured humans. This spell is important to get a 100% survival rate as well as keep human solders alive so they can help you. When upgraded it increases the blood sprays radius, allowing more humans to get hit with one spray.
- Willpower - Available from the beginning. Alicia performs a 'force push' that pushes most objects in the environment forward. Can be used to break barricades and eliminate enemies. When upgraded it creates a stronger push.
- Lightning - (One of the great magics.) After targeting an enemy it sends a one kill striking attack that can even destroy a tank and Gigas.
- Tornado - (One of the great magics.) When summoned it tears apart small buildings, pulls helicopters out of the sky, and throws all enemies and objects covered in its wake. Ineffective against tanks and Gigas.
- Meteors - (One of the great magics.) Meteorites emerge from the skies and demolishes anything in its path, geists, tanks, walnut heads, and even Gigas. However, because it causes so much destruction, that it levels buildings and sends debree and others objects hurling around, this is an easy way to accidentally get yourself killed.
[edit] Reception
Bullet Witch was released to mixed reviews. Official Xbox Magazine awarded the game a 4.0 rating (on a 10 scale). Criticisms included simplistic and uninspired level design, useless spells, and poor AI.[2] GameSpot gave it a 5.5 out of 10, stating that the game was generally repetitive and mediocre.[3] IGN concurred with a 4.0 out of 10, citing poor AI and criticizing the game as being too short.[4] Despite marginally low scores (generally merely average), reception from other sources have ranged from lukewarm to rather positive. Some scores have ranged from a 3 out of 5 by G4, to a 77 out of 100 from GameBrink, an average 6.5 of 10 from Game Informer, a 7.8 out of 10 from Game Chronicles, to an 8.5 (out of a 10) from Play. Praise has mainly consisted of the game's fast paced action and dynamic attack spells, whereas others admire the proficiently original female heroine. UK based website Mansized scored Bullet Witch a mere 1/5, stating that "there's just not enough to this game."
