Hatley High is a 2003 romantic comedy film, about an 18 year old named Tommy, who lives with his father. Tommy and his father move to a small town where the boy's mother grew up. Everyone in the town thinks of her as a chess hero because of her skills. Because of his mother's death, Tommy hates playing chess. The entire town is obsessed with the game and the school's jocks are the chess team.
Through several events that occur, Tommy starts to play chess again, and even helps the school win the chess match against their rivals, the Russians.
