The Izhevsk Arsenal, or JSC Concern Izhmash (Russian: ОАО "Ижевский машзавод", OAO Izhevsky Mashzavod, or Izhmash is a diversified machine-building company in Izhevsk, Udmurtia. It manufactures cars, motorcycles, firearms, machine tools, and other products.
The plant was founded in 1760 as an iron mill. In 1800, Emperor Paul I ordered that an arsenal be built in the region. The engineers chose a site near the Izh River iron mill, and in 1807 the construction of the arsenal started.
Some of the most prominent weapons of the 20th Century, including the Mosin-Nagant, SKS, and the AK-47, were tested and manufactured there. It continues to this day manufacturing 'Baikal' sporting shotguns and rifles [1], and military firearms as Izhmash.
