[edit] Filipino names
Please don't move them to a new page. Filipino names do not use Spanish accents. In fact the only "accented" later is "ñ". The Filipino alphabet doesn't contain accented letters. --Howard the Duck 12:04, 8 July 2006 (UTC)
- I also concede that those born during the Spanish era and those who might have Spanish blood be retained. Thanks for understanding. --Howard the Duck 03:26, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] CfD for Filipino people by ethnic group or nation
I've put this category and its 18 subcategories under deletion. Since you've created them, I thought you'd like to know. Please see my reasons for deletion at Wikipedia:Categories_for_deletion/Log/2006_August_7#Filipino people by ethnic or national origin. --Chris S. 04:41, 7 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Ethnicity
Sorry for the delay. But to answer your question, which I will interpret strictly, I would say "no." For example, I have German ancestry but I do not consider myself part of the German ethnic group (whose "membership" is based on more than heritage); i.e., I do not identify with it. Do you see the distinction I'm getting at? Recognizing heritage vs. identifying oneself with a group based on that?
Let's say the Filipino guy of German descent begins identifying with Germans AS ONE OF THEM. Then, I'd say, he would be considered a German.
In any case, because of the complicated nature of this person's ethnicity given his family background, I would not categorize him but instead explain in the article his circumstance since the category could be misleading.
I'm open to more ideas on this, I still have to think about it some more. I mean there's the issue of "German-Filipino" as an ethnic group vs. plain "German." There is no German-Filipino community that I know of in the Philippines - a subset of Filipinos of German background who are active in German culture and language in the Philippines (much like like the Chinese-Filipinos). Because of that, I wouldn't put him in such a category. I would put them instead under "German." It's a complicated issue. I mean clearly you have people like John F. Kennedy who are Irish Americans but yet George W. Bush is one and is still categorized as one despite the Bushes not being heavily into their Irish ethnicity as the Kennedy's are. --Chris S. 03:30, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
I've been thinking about it some more... Since there is no German-Filipino community in the Philippines, then consequently it isn't notable enough to merit its own category here on Wikipedia. Also, since there is no German-Filipino community how can one person feel a member where he is the sole member or even separate from other members he isn't in contact with? It may be cute or whatever referring to someone as (let's use myself as an example) as Filipino-Cornish-Swiss-German-English-Irish-Scottish but it gets ridiculous and making categories based on this serves no real purpose due because it's not a notable category.
Since the notion of "German-Filipino" isn't really solid, we should not resort to labels in this case and instead mention something like "actor Jhun Schlesinger was born to Klaus Schlesinger of Munich, Germany and Maria de la Cruz of Butuan City." As it stands, I think the only notable categories are Filipino Americans, Chinese Filipinos, and Spanish Filipinos. These three groups have established communities and ties. --Chris S. 02:44, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Balagtas
As far as I know, Francsico Balagtas did not write his famous works in Spanish. Florante at Laura, and Orsoman at Zafira were written in Classic Tagalog. Which is why Balagtas is a pioneering writer in a Philippine language. - 7258 05:40, 28 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] thanks
no problem. thanks too for keeping watch over the pages. your contributions are very valuable. - 7258 07:14, 29 October 2006 (UTC)
[edit] translation
Thanks a lot for helping out! I'll start adding test articles soon. --Soman 12:35, 13 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] About Spanish-Filipino article
I got a question for you? Why is the Tornatras article have the Mestizo category?? Why is'nt the Spanish-Filipino People have the Mestizo category?? What's the reason here?? Gonzalo 18:45, 25 November, 2005
[edit] Basque?
So how did you come to the conclusion that Arnaiz and Aboitiz are Basque? --Chris S. 23:30, 10 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Botanist active in the Philippines
Why shouldn't this be categorized as Filipino scientists? BTW, I think Quisimbing is a very native Filipino, thus a 'Filipino' scientist.--Jondel 09:06, 15 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Request for deletion of the category "American-Filipinos"
Lagalag, before you make any motion to request the deletion of the category "American-Filipinos" and the article of the same name, please give me valid reasons as to why they need to be deleted. Otherwise, I don't see any reason to permit such action.
As we all know, Filipino-Americans, or American citizens with one or both parents who is/are Filipino/s by ethnic origin, do exist in vast numbers in the United States and even elsewhere in the world. But so do American-Filipinos, or Filipino citizens with one or both parents who is/are American/s by ethnic origin. They also exist in reality and in fact number quite significantly here in the Philippines and even elsewhere in the world as well.
Honestly, I myself wouldn't personally create an article or category or edit an article if I know very well if a subject or subjects concerned do not exist in reality. I have already read Wikipedia's terms and conditions and have personally made a vow to abide by it at all times. Creating the above category and making the necessary article editions are just some of my own little ways of making a significant contribution to human thought through proper education and information, and I do not in any way intend to harm anyone through misinformation by using this website. And if in any way I did misinform anyone though any erroneous or inappropriate contributions I made to this website, I hereby offer my sincerest apologies for my actions. I do understand and appreciate your concerns about my creation and editing of some articles and categories here, but I do hope you would also be able to understand and appreciate whatever contributions I have brought to this wonderful website for the benefit of all. Thank you very much. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Pinoy Pride (talk • contribs) 10:06, 16 December 2006 (UTC).
- Hi there! Thanks for the information. By the way, how can I get in touch with Chris S. here?
[edit] European-Malays article
Hi Lagalag. I just would like to informed you that I've created a new article called European-Malays as a new name for Euromalays. Feel free to contribute as much as you - I know you've been of great help and I appreciate that you're trying your best. See you there then. Have a good day. --Fantastic4boy 02:07, 18 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Dual citizenship in the Philippines
I spoke to a lawyer who works for the Philippine Bureau of Immigration and Deportation early this year and she said people who were born in 1972 and onwards are eligible for dual citizenship. 'Just thought I'd let you know.
[edit] your edits in changing Filipino people to Philippines
You seem to have changed all articles involving Filipino people to Philippines. Please explain your rationale why, or fill out edit summary as best as you can. IMHO, the edit is not minor. Also, the correct wiki link is Filipino people, not Philippines. Unless you can give a valid rationale for your edit, please revert all your previous edits or they will be reverted for you. --Guest818(talk) 07:29, 25 December 2006 (UTC)
- Thank you for the reply, and your rationale. However, let me point out that, the changes were made to ALL Filipino articles, not just, as you claim, politicians. Also the actors and actresses, etc. were changed from [[Filipino people|Filipino]] to [[Philippines|Filipino]]. Inasmuch as all editors of the articles in question made those categories or disamb for Filipino, the edits should not have been made prior to a discussion in WT:TAMBAY where everybody's input, including all the editors of such articles, can bring in their inputs. I hope that a concensus on this matter is reached and that it is resolved in a proper forum such as WT:TAMBAY. --Guest818(talk) 16:46, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] IMSCF syndrome
Someone put it up for deletion. See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/IMSCF Syndrome (2nd nomination). --Chris S. 21:35, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Mestizo
User Raymond Cruise has been removing this category.I've reverted some of them.--Jondel 05:33, 29 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Some articles that might be good
- Premio Zobel
- Mexicans and the Philippines.

[edit] Filipino Wikipedia
Was there a vote on Wikimedia for this new Wikipedia? I am very much against it. It doesn't make sense to divide the efforts between Tagalog and Filipino when both are virtually the same language. It's like having an English Wikipedia and a Los Angeles dialect one. --Chris S. 13:28, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for stopping the project. I am not sure if it's necessary to have a vote before doing the incubator, but I assumed there was one. --Chris S. 05:56, 17 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] "De facto"
Naku, de facto this, de facto that. De facto ad nauseam. I don't mean any offense, but I think it's rather superfluous. The situation is already mentioned in the articles. --Chris S. 05:32, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
Of course it doesn't, but what else could Ito ay ang katutubong wika, pasalita at pasulat, sa Metro Manila, ang Pambansang Punong Rehiyon mean? It's pretty clear, di ba? ;-) In any case, I recall some later laws shedding some light on the language situation. I don't know if they mentioned Tagalog, though I think it was the alphabet. I'm not sure.
Also, thanks for doing a bunch of clean-up everywhere and streamlining the categories. I wish I could dedicate more time to Wikipedia. There's some major overhauls that I've been wanting to do but have little time these days. --Chris S. 04:18, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I noticed that too. But they singled out Metro Manila. If it were simply a matter of creating another language, then why single out that area? From that context they're specifically referring to Tagalog and the way it is used in major urban centers. I guess this is what happens when you send non-linguists to a do a linguist's job. ;-)
Siyanga pala, where did you hear that Manila is Ibali in Sambal? I think that's cool, but I tried to confirm it with my Tina Sambal dictionary and it wasn't there (it's not a comprehensive dictionary to begin with, I'll admit). -Chris S. 13:12, 7 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Filipino mestizo related to Eurasian ethnic groups
Hi Lagalag, just found yr amendment on my watchlist. Am sure we all understand any ethnic issue is per definition a volatile topic. However as you have reworded a wikilink in a Wikiproject Indonesia article i.e. Indo (Eurasian), herewith cordially request to see yr arguments. However pls read the article and review the links original description in the articles context and not as a stand alone description. Believe the original description is more in line with the article. Looking fwd to seeying yr soonest reply. Krgds, JOHN NATHANN 19:52, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
