Narendra Babubhai Patel, Baron Patel FMedSci, FRSE (born 1938) is a doctor on the field of medicine and more specifically obstetrics

Patel was born in Tanzania in 1938 and educated in Tanzania, India and London. He studied at what was then Queens college, University of St Andrews (now the University of Dundee) graduating in 1964. He then proceeded to work for more than 30 years at Dundee's Ninewells hospital and medical school.
Patel has clinical and academic interests include high risk obstetrics, premature labour, foetal growth retardation, obstetric epidemiology and quality of the standards of health and clinical provision.

He is a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences and the Royal Society of Edinburgh, an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England and the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, Chairman of the Clinical Standards Board for Scotland, Quality Improvement Scotland. He was Vice President of FIGO, the International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics. He has also held the positions of Chairman of the National Health Quality Improvement Scotland, Member of the Council of the General Medical Council, member of the Academy of Medical Sciences, Chairman of the Genetic Advisory Committee of the Medical Research Council of the United Kingdom, President of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists.
Lord Patel received a knighthood in 1997 and after receiving a life peerage as Baron Patel, of Dunkeld in Perth and Kinross in 1999 now sits as in the House of Lords, where he has been a member of the science and technology committee since his elevation. In 2006 he was appointed Chancellor of the University of Dundee. As part of his investiture he chose to bestow Honorary degrees on the Baroness Cox and Professor Anna Glasier OBE.
