The Sound of Urchin
Sound of Urchin first came about in the 2000s in Brooklyn, NY and New Hope, PA , when drummer Tomato (aka Chris Harfenist) decided to make an album ("All That And A Brandy Alexander") with friend Barbie Smooth (aka Mike Huetz) on Steven Records, a Brooklyn, NY independent record label started by Harfenist. When he began to develop a fan base, through the underground success of songs such as "Green Green Gold" and "Space Station on the 4,5 & 6", he added bassist Doo Doo Brown (aka Chris Huetz), guitarist B.lll (aka Bill Fowler), and guitarist Scotty Choc (aka Scott Heydt) to the lineup - Heydt was later replaced by guitarist Seahag (aka Robert Mangano), who was from the Ike Willis fronted Frank Zappa alum band Project Object. The Urchin, or SOU, as they are called, developed a form of comedy rock that endeared them to like-minded musicians, leading to work with Dean Ween from the band Ween and Tenacious D, among others.
Below is a discography of their major label and independent recordings and achievements up through 2007. They are currently in the studio recording their third full length album.
• "If there's one thing on this earth that I fear, it is The Sound of Urchin", Jack Black
• "Sound of Urchin are the 2nd greatest band in rock today",Dean Ween
