Talk:Fishkill, New York
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
So, there's a place named "Fishkill" and its page on Wikipedia doesn't explain the origin of the name? C'mon, there must be a story behind this.
- Not as exciting as one might think. Certainly not that exciting to New Yorkers accustomed to such "grisly" names as Catskill Mountains! The Dutch settled the area and named it "Vis-Kil", or fish creek, which of course was anglacized into Fishkill. You'll find all kinds of kills all throughout the erstwhile New Netherlands.
[edit] Removal of separate term
I removed the following from the end of the article:
Fish kill is also a phenomenon in aquatic ecology when fish and other organisms die because of oxygen depletion or chemical water pollution
Simply because it had nothing to do with Fishkill, NY, which is the title of the page.
