Francis Ohanyido

Francis Ohanyido (born March 4, 1970) is an African philosopher, poet, essayist, public health Physician, and activist.

Francis obtained his first degree in Medicine & Surgery (MB, BS) from University of Jos. He continued with post-graduate trainings at Imo state University and Ahmadu Bello University (Zaria) in Health service administration and Public health respectively. With a continuing education alumnus of Harvard Medical School and American University of Armenia, he helped to develop the concept of Rights–Based Approach to healthcare delivery in Nigerian medical circles.
In 1990, he convened what is now referred to as the Afriquest Initiative towards neo-African renaissance in Jos, Nigeria. It was a watershed in the Nigerian art sphere that gave rise to the concept of Afrisecaism. In 2003, he set up the web-based Nigerian Telemedicine Development Alliance (NTDA), an advocacy group for telemedicine infrastructure in Nigeria and the rest of Africa. In 2002, he worked as a Legislative intern and Advisor with Senate Committee on Health under Constitutional Rights Project (CRP) and National Democratic Institute of America (NDI). Most of his works were on health policies & laws as well as gender analysis.
Ohanyido’s writings, often classified as Afrisecal movement draw on basic African experience including myths and traditions with contemporary ideograms. He is widely published in electronic and print media; Clankind (2005); and Memories of Aidi (all collections of poems. Among Essays include A Vision without measure; A Neo-African Renaissance (2004) and Dearth of Honour (2006) and over forty other essays on health, politics, history, religion and philosophy. He is presently the chairman of Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA) and Senior Executive Health Officer of CMDS center, Kaduna. An outspoken critic of Nigerian Juntas, he had several encounters with the security apparatchiks of the late Sani Abacha, as a student activist. Dr Ohanyido is affiliated to several International professional and civic organisations such as International Public Health Forum (IPHF), Science Advisory Board, [Association of Reproductive Health Professionals]] (ARHP), Nigerian Institute of Management and International AIDS Economic Network (IAEN), amongst others.
