[edit] Is he unique or not?
"he is the only player to have won the World Cup and the European Championships both as a captain and a coach (Brazil's former striker Zagallo has also coached his country to the cup, but he never captained his side)."
But later the article says he is the only person to have done this. Needs clarifying, in the english version at least
the photo is not franz beckenbauer. sorry, i made a mistake, it is franz.
I feel he is quite unique; his drive has been football during his whole life, and he is the first player to have won the World Cup as player and coach for his own country (which marks the difference with the brazillian Zagallo)

While he has won the European Championship as a captain in 1972, he has never won it as a coach. In his only attempt, the German team was ousted by the Netherlands in the semifinals in 1988.
