Gaira Caffeine (花諷院骸羅, Kafuin Gaira^?) is a video game character in the Samurai Shodown series.

Gaira is the grandson of Nicotine Caffeine and a monk in training. One day, he and his grandfather had a disagreement and proceeded to get into an argument. This caused Gaira to leave his home and venture out on his own. During his travels, he witnessed Zankuro Minazuki slaughtering an entire village. Gaira was transfixed in horror, however, and could not bring himself to move.

Upon Zankuro's departure, Gaira became fustrated at himself for fearing Zankuro. He decided to go out on a journey to defeat the "demon". During his search, he found out that Zankuro was killed. He searched for his body, buried it and built him a grave.

But shortly after, the grave was destroyed. He then sensed that Zankuro's soul had become resurrected and sealed once again. Deciding that whoever defeated Zankuro was very dangerous, he headed out to Shimabara to seek him out. Also he found in his way Basara Kubikiri, as Gaira seems as an evil spirit that he has to exorcise.

After the death of Zankuro, Gaira continues as a monk. But again feels the evil presence in Gaoh Kyougoku Hinowanokami, so Gaira once again goes to defeat the new menace. In the end, he has confused what he searches for and back to his home, where his grandfather obligates him to shave bald.

Gaira's relationship with his grandfather Nicotine Caffeine isn't the best, since always they fights all the time, as seen, for example, in his SSIV ending.[1]
The grave where Gaira buried Zankuro in was named Onizuka.
In Samurai Shodown VI you can play with Kim Wenchue, a headswap of Gaira as seen in previous titles and with white clothes instead blue. Kim is a secret character in this game.
It is quite probable that, in a way, his ending in SSV is slightly canon, as in his ending, his head was shaved bald by Nicotine, Earthquake, Gen-an, Wan-Fu and Seiger (those 4 characters appears in this ending as a joke), and his SSVI incarnation depicts this change.[2]
