[edit] History
George H. Moody Middle School was initially opened in 1951, as Hermitage High School. The school was built to replace the old Glen Allen High School. A former principal of Glen Allen, George H. Moody, was appointed the first principal of Hermitage High School. He served in this capacity until 1956, when he was promoted to the position of superintendent of Henrico County Public Schools.
In 1972, the school became known as Hermitage Middle School, following the opening of the new Hermitage High School.
George H. Moody's integrity and dedication to improving the quality and standards of education within the county have been well documented. He left an indelible mark on the Henrico County Public School district during his thirteen years as it's superintendent. As a result, Hermitage Middle School was officially named after him on November 5, 1978. Since that time, the school has been known as George H. Moody Middle School.
[edit] Technology
George H. Moody Middle School greeted the new millennium and its own 50th anniversary by undergoing a $10 million dollar renovation. Veteran teachers and alumni whose children now attend the school, watched in amazement as their classrooms from earlier years crumbled, and the once wide echoing hallways and vaulted ceilings were brought up to date and down to size. The classrooms were replaced with a new and improved look, and wired to meet 21st century educational technologies. The school has also intergrated iBooks, an Apple Computer product, into their learning programs. They have a wireless internet network and a Web server system.
