[edit] Motto
The school's Latin motto is spectemur agendo, which is conventionally translated into English as "judge me by what I do." Other translations include Let us be judged by our acts and By our deeds may we be known (this translation is preferred by Camberwell Grammar School in Melbourne, who shares the same motto.
[edit] Houses
The Houses of Gosford High School and their colours are as follows:
- Kingsbury (Red and White)
- Rowe (Black and White)
- Old Students' Union or O.S.U (Brown and Gold)
- Wheeler (Green and Gold)
The houses were named after prominent local identities, with the exception of O.S.U (Old Students Union) who used to sponsor many school events
The houses compete in three sporting carnivals. In the summer season, a Swimming Carnival is held and in the winter months an Athletic Carnival. There is also a cross-country run held in Autumn, but this is held on an afternoon at school rather than an off-school carnival.
[edit] Prefect system
The school's Prefects of Year 12 are elected by teachers and the Year 11 cohort before they proceed into the final year of Senior school. This usually takes place in the third term. Firstly a group of 24 prefects are elected. The members of this prefect group then go to elect the captain's and vice captain's for the following year. In 2006 Scott Smith and Jessica Pryke were the School Captains of Gosford High School. In term 4 of 2006, Jade Fennell and Patrick McGrath accepted these roles as the school captains.

[edit] Robert Drummond Case
Beyond the school's academic prowess, Gosford High School has become renowned for its association with the incident now locally referred to as "Docwra-gate". Articles in the nation's press relating to Docwra-gate include 'Did teacher, 52, break sex code of conduct?' in the Sydney Morning Herald as well as 'Student Lovechild' in the Daily Telegraph. The scandal also involved ex-teacher Robert Drummond. In more recent years this 'renown' has not faded at all, Robert Drummond is still in the relationship with the student in question. Students who remember the teacher have either graduated or are undergoing senior study, but current students at the school also know of him from it being an extremely publicised case.
