[edit] Character history
Having lived over 1500 years ago, not much is known about Dashi. It is implied that Dashi was the very first Xiaolin Monk, and that he created the mystical Shen Gong Wu, which are featured very prominently in the series. One of the Shen Gong Wu, the lightning shooting Eye of Dashi is named after him. 1500 years ago, he, Master Monk Guan, Chase Young, and Dojo defeated Wuya.
Dashi appears twice in the series (outside of the series' opening montage). In his first appearance, Omi uses Jack Spicer's "Evil" Time Machine to go back to the past to get Dashi's help. Encountering Dashi, Omi explains his predicament, and after the two compete in a Xiaolin Showdown, Dashi gives Omi a second wooden puzzle box with which to trap Wuya. When Omi realizes that he is trapped in the past and panics, Dashi calms him down. Unfortunately for Omi, Dashi and Dojo had already buried their time-traveling Shen Gong Wu, The Sands Of Time. Dashi gives Omi some advice and departs, which Omi is able to use to return to the future. When Raimundo opens the puzzle box, Dashi's spirit appears and traps Wuya inside it. Dashi is later seen in Time After Time at the end of Part 1 and the start of Part 2. Though it contains inconsistencies with earlier parts of the series, such as Dashi's non-use of Shen Gong Wu, this scene is a re-enactment of Wuya's original banishment.
Some have theorized that Omi may be a descendant of Dashi's, and Jack a descendant of Wuya's, due to the similar appearance of both pairs. However, there is no factual basis for this within the series canon.
[edit] Character personality
Dashi is an honest and true guy who upholds good moral judgement, although the way he acts hardly fits the description of a Master Monk. While highly skilled and exceptionally strong, he is very lazy and apathetic towards taking immediate action, preferring to take things slowly. His speech and mannerisms are centuries ahead of his time, although this is more than likely purely for the sake of humor. While he can appear fickle, he does believe in justice and will take action when required. He is best friends with Dojo, although his temper is fairly short in response to Dojo's incompentence. He seems to be a lot like Raimundo, so we assume that he is also a Xiaolin Dragon of the Wind. (That, and the wind moves that we've seen him perform.)
[edit] Outfit
Dashi wears a black coat that is tied together along with a pair of white pants, though he becomes shirtless while fighting. While disguised as a hobo, Dashi wears a straw hat. While in spirit form, Dashi's lower half is replaced with a spectral tail. He always was a fool. A smart dresser! But a fool... - Wuya in reference to Dashi.
[edit] Name
The name, "Dashi", translates into "Grand Master" in Chinese.
[edit] Powers and abilities
Dashi is an extremely agile and quick-witted martial artist. In Days Past, Dashi did not use any mystical or elemental abilities (other than transforming a pebble into a puzzlebox). He is also above using Shen Gong Wu in Xiaolin Showdowns, and clearly does not require them. In the episode Time After Time, he employed some very powerful cyclone attacks which destroyed masses of Wuya's rock creatures. Such a feat is difficult for the monks when Wuya employs her rock creatures again 1500 years later.
Unlike Chase and Guan, who show no clear signs of elemental association, it seems that Dashi was a Xiaolin Dragon of the Wind. (Seen through his personality and the abilities in Time After Time. In " The Return of Pandabubba " Raimundo used a cyclone attack to blow back of some of the zombies, which looks quite similar to Dashi's move).
